The Yale Game: 1981 The Best Princeton Football Game in the 20th Century – as Remembered Almost 40 Years Later by Those Who Played In It
May 28, 2020 - May 31, 2020
In the fall of 1981, Yale marched into Palmer Stadium undefeated and ranked 19th in the country. They had beaten Princeton 14 years in a row. The Tigers were 3-4-1 overall (3-1-1 in the Ivies), had a potent offense and a chance to win the Ivies. Yale sprinted off to a 21-0 lead with 4:30 to go in the first half. And then the magic started to happen. . .Former WPRB sportscaster Rich Gorelick, who broadcast the game, moderates a panel that includes co-captains Jono Helmerich and Larry Van Pelt, quarterback Bob Holly, tight end Scott Oostdyk, cornerback Stan Freck, and offensive linemen Larry Arata, Rick Klein and Mark Rifkin, with special appearances by many others who played key roles in that game.
