SUMMARY:Meeting the Moment as Princetonians: In the Nation’s Service and the Service of Humanity
DESCRIPTION:Princeton’s informal motto\, In the Nation’s Service and the Service of Humanity\, has never felt more urgent. At a moment when democratic institutions\, constitutional rights and the rule of law face unprecedented pressure\, what does it mean to live that motto? What can we do\, as lawyers\, organizers\, educators\, public servants\, artists and engaged citizens\, to protect what we value most? \nJoin us for a moderated panel discussion bringing together Princeton alumni and faculty across ideological perspectives and realms of influence for an honest and civil conversation about this pivotal moment in American democracy. In a time of great political divide\, this panel will serve as a demonstration of the kind of thoughtful\, principled discourse on which our democracy depends\, as well as a launching pad for collective action. \nSpeakers \nStephen Macedo *84 *87\, Laurance S. Rockefeller Professor of Politics and the University Center for Human Values \nRobert Doar ’83\, President\, American Enterprise Institute \nJared Polis ’96\, Governor of Colorado \nEmerson Sykes *11\, Senior Staff Attorney\, ACLU Speech\, Privacy\, and Technology Project \nIndrani Pal-Chaudhuri ’01\, Director\, Regeneration Generation; Founder\, Open Origin \n  \nSponsored by the Class of 2008
