SUMMARY:The Domestic and International Political Economy of Sovereign Debt
DESCRIPTION:This panel will explore the politics — within and between countries — related to sovereign finance and its role in economic development. We’ll especially focus on issues related to emerging and frontier market countries\, as they confront higher fuel and food prices\, the green transition and continued needs for social policy. Our panelists have a range of expertise and experience (academic\, civil society and the private sector). They will discuss how international financial institutions engage in lending as well as in the resolution of crises\, as well as how politics within countries affect decisions related to borrowing\, debt restructuring and debt crisis resolution. We also will consider the politics of debt-related issues in the US and other wealthy economies. \nFeaturing: \nChristian Baehr\, Princeton Sovereign Finance Lab Graduate Fellow \nTara Hariharan *07\, Managing Director and Head of Research\, NWI Management LP \nWalter C. Jones *85\, Director of Investments for Europe\, Eurasia\, Latin America and Caribbean\, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation \nLayna Mosley\, Director\, Princeton Sovereign Finance Lab; Professor of Politics and International Affairs\, Princeton University \nB.
