The UAP-rade: Marching Toward Disclosure: National Security, Open Science, and the Legal Fight to End Secrecy

Princeton’s famous P-rade celebrates familiar orange-and-black traditions — but this year, alumni will first explore a frontier that could redefine national security, scientific inquiry, and even public trust in government: unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP).
In a fast-paced 45-minute panel, we will unpack why Congress, the Pentagon, Silicon Valley, and the scientific community have all placed UAP on their 2025 agenda:
- Why now? Bipartisan legislation and whistleblower testimony have cracked open decades-old secrecy, and a series of still-unexplained drone incursions over New Jersey’s critical infrastructure in late 2024 has put air-space security back in the headlines.
- Science & innovation: From open-data prize challenges to multi-sensor sky-watching networks, UAP research is becoming a test-bed for next-gen aerospace, AI, and sensing technologies.
- National security & law: How new legal frameworks can protect insiders who come forward — and why transparency is a strategic advantage.
The discussion will cut through myth and hype with candid insights and vivid projections of how policy, open-science initiatives, and new legal safeguards could finally turn decades of rumor into verifiable public knowledge.
